The crest on the salver is possibly for William Hale (d.1829) of Kings Walden, who married the Hon. Mary Grimston, daughter of James, 2nd Viscount Grimston, in 1777.

The Ascot
Racecourse Balustrading
As one of the highlights of the social calendar, Royal Ascot has a long and distinguished history dating back nearly three hundred years. The racecourse was established in 1711 at the instigation of Queen Anne, a passionate race-goer and horsewoman. The first race was run on Saturday 12th August, 1711 with the Queen in attendance. In the late 18th century, a Royal Stand was built to accommodate the Royal Family, and over the period of the next 150 years it was updated and renewed. In 1935, there was a radical remodelling by Sir Albert Richardson (1880-1964), the design of which was reputed to have been inspired by Cecil Beaton's designs for My Fair Lady.
In 1963 the Duke of Norfolk announced that a new stand would be built, incorporating the existing Royal Stand, or Royal Box as it was more often known. In the rebuilding old materials, notably the stonework, were reused where possible.
The balustrading offered here is 25 meters plus and was not required to complete the courtyard in Princess Margaret‘s private garden at Kensington Palace
